GhAMa Community Project - 2018
At the beginning of the year, the Ghana Association of Madison (GhAMa) embarked on a project to help
people within the Madison community. The association partnered with a non-profit organization called
The Road Home (TRH), Dane County, to support homeless kids. The Road Home organization is
committed to helping families in our community experiencing homelessness find stable housing and
provide the kids with basic needs such as school supplies.
As an organization with one of mission to support our community we joined the Road Home to make a
difference in the lives of children experiencing homelessness. To achieve our mission we raised funds
during the 61 st Ghana Independence Celebration in March. We had a generous amount of donation from
our members and guests who attended the event. I would like to use this opportunity to thank all those
who donated during the event.
Our support did not stop there, the association reached out to other organizations and individuals for
more funds to help TRH. There was an amazing outpour of funds from members, friends of the
association (non-members) and other organizations in Madison.
With a total amount in $1590 of donations received, GhAMa was able to purchase 20 backpacks filled
with calculators, books, folders etc. In addition, we purchased a single bed set with mattress and sheets
to donate to the Road Home. On June 30 th , 2018, which was also the association’s annual community
picnic, we had an official ceremony where we presented the supplies to TRH members lead by Peggy
Halloran. We were fortunate to have a press coverage from The Capital City Hues Newspaper. Our
appreciation goes to Jon Grambling, editor of Capital Hues, for capturing GhAMa’s donation
presentation and shedding lights on the organization’s support for homeless families in Madison. The
information can be found in the Capital Hues paper Vol. 13 No 16. released on August 6th 2018.
On behalf of the Ghana Association of Madison board of directors, I would like to extend our utmost
appreciation to everyone who showed their love and support for our 2018 community project.
Below is the list of all Donors:
Donors at the 2018 Independence Celebration of Ghana, UW friends of GhAMa, Walmart- Monona, the
Cullen Family, the Amuah Family, the Brewoo Family, the Tetteh, Agnes Darko, and the Sampene

As we all know the need to support homeless families is huge. I encourage all to continuously donate to
the Road home to help end the issue of family homelessness in our community. For ways to donate to
